After Peter is gravely wounded, Harry allows the symbiote to bond with his friend to save his life, only for the symbiote to negatively affect Peter’s personality. After luck8 of catastrophic events, Miles has to battle Peter to remove the symbiote from Peter’s body. Miles initially helps rid Peter of the symbiote while Harry seeks to get it back.

In layman’s terms, that means sexy clouds and lighting effects reflecting off surfaces in real time. Imagine clinging to a skyscraper’s glass façade and seeing your reflection, and the entire city’s, projected back. That fidelity takes a minor hit in Performance mode, which dials back the glam for a steadier framerate, which would normally be the preferred method for a game that requires a certain level of speed. If you’ve got that, you probably know, and it makes for one of the most technologically astonishing experiences in modern gaming. It’s enough of a roller coaster to hold your interest, and the way the city physically changes and evolves to fit the ongoing narrative is impressive (from ‘post-Sandman attack’ to ‘overrun with big game hunters’ and beyond).
Like the first two games, the true star of Spider-Man 2 is its story. It finally gives us the chance to jump between playing as either Peter or Miles as the two work together to protect New York City from Kraven, a fierce warrior looking to transform the city into his hunting ground. Their personal lives don’t fare any less stressful–Peter and Miles are both stuck, struggling to figure out what’s next for them.
New factions and units, such as flamethrower-wielding cultists that keep you at a distance, flying drones, and hunters who deploy laser grids above your head to limit aerial attacks keep you on your sticky toes. Certain enemies are weak to different types of abilities, such as electric or symbiote attacks, which also adds an enjoyable extra wrinkle to fights. It’s by no means revolutionary stuff, but a welcome added level of complexity that makes you consider which powers – or even which Spider-Man – are best for a given job. But you can play as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, switching between the heroic Spider-Men on your crime-fighting adventures to experience their individual gameplay abilities and story elements.
So, with that in mind, this latest PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 looks phenomenal. Miles clashes with a rebel group known as the Underground, who are armed with advanced technology provided by their masked leader the Tinkerer. The Underground is targeting an experimental power source called Nuform, developed by the nefarious Roxxon Corporation. Roxxon is headed by immoral businessman Simon Krieger, who had Phin’s uncle killed when he attempted to report on Nuform’s instability and destructive potential.
They set up The Chameleon and Carnage but they don’t actually do anything. And that’s not even mentioning side characters like Silver Sable who easily could’ve returned in some capacity. With the small exception of a Mister Negative boss fight, but he doesn’t do anything until that point. And I applaud them for trying to use new characters; however, it came at the cost of a cohesive universe. The best thing MJ contributes to this game is when she turns into Scream.
Another is Hydro Punch, which is almost certainly a reference to Hydro Man. Dazzler’s Stage is a small tent pitched up with a dancer, referencing Dazzler from the X-Men, and so on. Even more peculiar, if you head to the opposite side of the building, you’ll find a bookstore that you can actually enter via the open front door (an extreme rarity). Inside you’ll be able to see into the secret room through a bookshelf on the back wall – but also notice the metallic goat/ram skulls on the wall of the store and the abstract painting. But the combat isn’t the star of the show here; it’s the story, which is a beautiful, character-driven tale that gets surprisingly emotional on multiple occasions.
